BEAUTIFUL IMPERFECTIONS
Fields of Gold
SGD 185.00
This photograph was taken in a town called Nomi, Japan. This scene of a barley field was taken on a film camera using a 35mm film roll. The strong visual presence of the fiery streak and florescent blue on the left side of the image is a direct result of an imperfection called a “film burn”.
I was often taken by the fields of gold that stretched across different parts of the land as we drove around the outskirts of Japan. In my attempt to capture a photo that showcases the fields in their gold hues, I was pleasantly surprised to receive my film scans back with this image in particular, transformed. Light had exposed the first frame of the roll used.
The expansive gold fields and serene blue skies contrasts with the bright colors left behind by the film burn, resulting in an intriguing composition.

The custom wood frames made for this collection of prints were created in collaboration with Isaac from @Avowoodworks, a local woodworker based in Singapore. The frames were skillfully handcrafted using local solid woods, namely Rain tree for the body of the frame, as well as Tembusu for splines that reinforce each corner of the frame. The splines not only add robustness to the corners of the frames, but a visual point of interest as well due to the contrasting grains.
