An excerpt from the Repair + publication :
Exhausted Rocket Bag
“Isaiah was overjoyed when he first saw the bag. He loved carrying it to school every day. He even used it on the weekends on the pretence of packing a water bottle. The fins and fire were his favourite parts of the bag. When he realised that they were falling off, he was deeply upset, but continued to take the bag to school for two weeks. He then attempted to preserve the bag in a box. Isaiah thinks that the bag should not be made of fabric as clearly the material is not durable enough. He denies that the bag gives him superpowers. He loves drawing. And singing. He is crazy about Pokémon. Isaiah is Joy's six-year-old nephew. He returned to Singapore to live with her and settle into school as his father had been working overseas where schools were closed due to COVID-19. She has no idea why he likes the bag so much. To her, he is the engine of the rocket. While aspiring to pass the learned value of frugality from her parents to the next generation, she struggles with her lack of skill to restore the bag. She is not sure if Isaiah will still find the bag as precious or as practical when he goes to primary school next year.”
